Calm is the gentlest retinal in the Osmosis line — 0.03% retinaldehyde, the figure Osmosis publishes itself, carried in a liposomal base. Around it sit asiaticoside, feverfew, sea buckthorn, wild cherry bark and beta-glucan, with niacinamide, panthenol and Palmitoyl Tripeptide-38. Lactic and fulvic acids give a light resurfacing edge. Retinaldehyde is a step along from retinol; Osmosis states it is not sun-sensitizing.

This is where we start most people on vitamin A, especially anyone with visible redness or a history of reacting to retinoids. On clean skin, one to two pumps, before moisturizer. Osmosis clears it for morning or evening. If you already tolerate a stronger retinal, this is the one you drop back to during a flare rather than stopping altogether.
